Parents at Poorna

Where does education begin? Does it start at school or with you? That means, are you as a parent, as a human being, re-educating yourself all the time?" - J. Krishnamurthi

Parents of Poorna children are welcome and encouraged to actively participate in school activities. Whether it be involvement in the School Development and Management Committee, or contributing their artistic or professional knowledge and skills during classes, all types of involvement are welcome.

Sandhya Gatti and her friend Sanjay helped us to get our computers running. Liz with the help of senior students has been unpacking and cataloging the books in our library. She has been an immense help to us. Thank you to all the parents who donated cardboard boxes while we were packing!

It was the leadership and commitment of one parent a few years ago in organising a concert about Kabir, which raised the Rs. 5 lakhs subsequently used to start construction of our new school campus. Without such involvement and contacts in the art community, the teaching staff at Poorna could not have organised such an event on their own.

Last year, one parent took charge of training the drama group which went on to win first prize at the Aditi Mallya International school water day event. Another was giving regular singing classes for the children. Yet another scientist couple contribute their knowledge and enthusiasm during senior science classes. One volunteer mother almost took on the role of full-time teacher when she helped fill a teaching gap we had in our primary section. And there are many more examples.

Regular Parent Teacher meetings are one form of communication and discussion of issues between parents, teachers and, children, whose opinions and ideas are also welcome at all times.
